Shoulder Fracture Fixation

Shoulder fracture fixation is a surgical procedure used to stabilize fractures in the bones of the shoulder, such as the clavicle, scapula, or humerus. Fractures can result from traumatic injuries like falls or accidents. The procedure aims to realign the broken bones and stabilize them to facilitate proper healing. Fixation devices such as plates, screws, or rods are often used to hold the bones in place during the recovery process.

What Shoulder Fracture Fixation Treatment Entails

During the surgery, the surgeon will make incisions to access the fracture site. Depending on the location and severity of the fracture, the surgeon will use screws, plates, or rods to secure the bones in the proper position. In some cases, minimally invasive techniques may be used for smaller fractures to reduce scarring and recovery time.

Shoulder Fracture Fixation Recovery

Post-surgery, patients will typically wear a sling to immobilize the shoulder for several weeks. Physical therapy is crucial for regaining range of motion and strength. Full recovery can take anywhere from 3-6 months, depending on the severity of the fracture and the patient’s age and health. Some fractures may require longer periods of rehabilitation.
