Arthroscopic Rotator Cuff Repair

Arthroscopic rotator cuff repair is a minimally invasive procedure to treat tears or damage to the rotator cuff, a group of muscles and tendons that stabilize the shoulder. Rotator cuff tears are common and can be caused by aging, overuse, or trauma. This treatment is often recommended when conservative approaches, such as physical therapy, fail to alleviate symptoms. The goal of surgery is to reattach the torn tendon to the bone, restoring shoulder function and reducing pain.

What Arthroscopic Rotator Cuff Repair Treatment Entails

The procedure is performed through small incisions using an arthroscope, which provides the surgeon with a clear view of the shoulder. Instruments are used to reattach the torn tendons to the humerus (upper arm bone) using sutures or anchors. This technique minimizes tissue damage and results in a faster recovery compared to open surgery.

Arthroscopic Rotator Cuff Repair Recovery

After the surgery, patients typically wear a sling for several weeks to protect the shoulder. Rehabilitation includes physical therapy to regain strength and flexibility, with a focus on restoring shoulder movement. The full recovery process can take 4-6 months, with a gradual return to normal activities, but more strenuous activities may take up to a year.
