Wrist Arthroscopy

Wrist arthroscopy is a minimally invasive procedure that allows your surgeon to see and treat issues inside the wrist joint. Using a small camera and narrow instruments, we address problems that involve joint surfaces, ligaments, cartilage, and surrounding soft tissues. It is often recommended when wrist pain, catching, swelling, or loss of motion do not improve with rest, bracing, medications, or therapy. Your OrthoNJ team may also recommend it to confirm a diagnosis and provide treatment simultaneously. The goal is to relieve pain, restore function, and help you return to daily activities.

What Wrist Arthroscopy Entails

During wrist arthroscopy, the surgeon makes a few tiny incisions and inserts a pencil-sized camera to view the joint on a monitor. Through separate small portals, specialized tools can smooth irritated tissue, remove loose fragments, or repair torn structures with sutures or anchors when necessary. Because the technique uses small incisions and limited dissection, it typically causes less tissue disruption, which may reduce pain and support quicker recovery compared with open surgery.

Wrist Arthroscopy Recovery

After surgery, you will likely wear a soft dressing or short splint, keep the hand elevated, and begin gentle motion as directed. Physical or occupational therapy focuses on swelling control, restoring range of motion, and gradually rebuilding strength and grip. Most people resume light daily activities within a few weeks, while full recovery can take several weeks to a few months depending on the extent of repair, your job demands, and personal healing factors such as age and overall health.
